Zinedine Zidane saw his charges get back to winning ways after the shock loss away to Espanyol, in midweek.

A comfortable win over Getafe saw Real Madrid remain in third in the La Liga table and close the gap on the leaders Barcelona to twelve points, although our rivals get the chance to extend that lead again when they meet second in the table Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

Real Madrid opened the scoring in the twenty-fourth minute when Gareth Bale finished from inside the penalty area.

The lead was doubled in stoppage time in the first-half when Cristiano Ronaldo drilled home his first goal of the evening with a low shot.

Emerging for the second-half, any chances Getafe had of getting back into the game effectively ended when they were reduced to ten-men when Loic Remy was shown two yellow cards and a subsequent red-card.

However, our visitors did get a foot-hold back in the game when they were awarded a penalty kick after Nacho was adjudged to have fouled Jorge Molina inside the area. From the spot-kick, Francisco Portillo made no mistake.

Any thoughts that Real Madrid could drop two more points were ended in the seventy-eighth minute when Ronaldo got his second goal of the game, heading home a fine cross.

In fact, the margin of victory should have been a whole lot wider with Real Madrid missing several chances, Dani Carvajal drilled a shot narrowly wide, Ronaldo saw a goal wiped out for a push, Ronaldo also saw another effort kept out by a great save from Emiliano Martinez in the Getafe goal and Bale curled a free-kick just past the post.

Next up for Real Madrid is the second leg of the Champions League last-16 knockout tie against Paris Saint-Germain, on Tuesday evening in Paris.
