Real Madrid`s early season woes seem a world away at the moment.
Although a defence of La Liga is proving very improbable, recent results suggest that Real Madrid can snatch second-place behind Barcelona, from their neighbours Atletico Madrid.
Against Alaves, Real Madrid romped to a 4-0 win and never looked to be in any danger against their opponents.
The first of the four-goals came from Cristiano Ronaldo who was on hand to apply a fine finish to a back-heel from Karim Benzema.
The lead was doubled, when Gareth Bale netted after the break and Ronaldo then made it 3-0 courtesy of an assist from Vazquez.
However, when Ronaldo was given the chance to score a third goal and claim a hat-trick, Ronaldo, in a remarkable gesture of sportsmanship, gave the ball to Benzema to successfully score from the spot and make it 4-0.
After the game, Zinedine Zidane seemed well pleased with Ronaldo`s gesture, remarking,
‘I’m very happy with Ronaldo’s gesture.
‘This is a team game and it was a wonderful gesture.’
It`s just a crying shame Real Madrid started the 2017 / 2018 season so haphazardly!
