Last night, Real Madrid made it three wins on the bounce when they got the better of Real Betis in an eight goal thriller.

The three points earned reduces the gap between Real Madrid and the third-place club Valencia and ten points below the second-placed team Atletico Madrid, both of whom could be catchable if Real Madrid continue to harvest the wins.

However, our great rivals, Barcelona, remain seventeen points clear of us. A chase that will, I fear, prove to be forlorn.

Against Real Betis, Real Madrid took the lead when Marco Asensio headed home but were soon pegged back when Real Betis equalised through Aissa Mandi.

Before the half-time interval, Real Betis found themselves ahead when Nacho put through his own net.

Emerging from the break 2-1 down, Real Madrid knuckled down and took the game by the scruff of the neck. A goal from Sergio Ramos restored the parity before Asensio put Real Madrid ahead, 3-2.

The points were virtually made safe when Cristiano Ronaldo made it 4-2 but Real Betis weren`t giving the game up and gave themselves a chance of grabbing a point when Sergio Leon scored late on.

Thankfully, any thoughts of Real Madrid dropping a further two-points were quashed when, in stoppage time, Karim Benzema netted a fifth for Real Madrid.
